TC's National Championship Dreams dashed by Georgia Bulldogs repeat as National Champions

The University of Georgia Bulldogs proved to be the powerhouse of college football once again, as they claimed the national championship with an overwhelming and dominant performance. Georgia crushed Texas Christian University with a final score of 65-7, securing an undefeated season and successfully defending their title.

Georgia's 65 points set a new record for the most points scored in a college football championship game. TCU entered the game as underdogs, but they were no match for the Bulldogs. The game began with Georgia halting TCU's opening drive and scoring their first touchdown through a 21-yard rush by senior quarterback, Stetson Bennett. In less than three minutes, the Bulldogs quickly marched down the field, showing no mercy on TCU's defence.

This set the tone for the rest of the game, as UGA forced a fumble on TCU's next offensive drive, leading to a 24-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. TCU managed to respond with a 75-yard drive, resulting in a touchdown by quarterback Max Duggan, cutting Georgia's lead to 10-7. But this would be the only points TCU would score in the game.

Georgia quickly regained momentum, with a 37-yard touchdown pass by Bennett, pushing the lead to 17-7. The Bulldogs defence continued to dominate, stopping TCU on their next series and marching 92 yards for another rushing touchdown by Bennett, bringing the score to 24-7 in the second quarter.

A Duggan interception led to yet another touchdown for the Bulldogs before halftime, sealing the victory for Georgia.

Despite starting the second half with a promising drive, TCU's offence was once again thwarted by the dominant Georgia defence

. The Bulldogs picked up right where they left off in the first half, scoring yet another touchdown via a pass from Bennett, extending their lead to 45-7.

With just over 11 minutes remaining in the third quarter, the game was all but over. Bennett, the Bulldogs quarterback, led the team to six touchdowns (two rushing, four passing) before being taken out of the game 95 seconds into the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs entered the championship game as the undefeated defending national champions, with a 14-0 record. Led by Bennett, a former walk-on quarterback, they had dominated the Southeastern Conference, widely considered the best in college football, throughout the season and were ranked number one for most of the year.

TCU, a private university located in Fort Worth, Texas, with an enrollment of around 12,000, came into the game with a 13-1 record and as champions of the Big 12 Conference. They were not expected to go far in the playoffs, having been picked to finish seventh in their conference and given 200-to-1 odds to win the national championship. However, they had impressed fans all season with their winning streak. But in the end, they were unable to overcome the reigning champion Bulldogs.

The Southeastern Conference has had a dominant presence in the Division I FBS college football playoffs, with an SEC team winning the title six times since the CFP began in 2014. And with Georgia's repeat win, they become the first team to repeat as national champion in the CFP era.

One notable absence on the Bulldogs' sideline was their famous mascot, Uga X. The bulldog, a staple at Georgia games and usually seen in a UGA uniform and relaxing in an air-conditioned doghouse did not make the trip to California for the championship game. His owners decided the cross-country flight would be too difficult for the 9-year-old. But he will certainly be present in spirit for the upcoming victory parade in Athens, Georgia.
